This made me laugh out loud at some points as Gert adventures around Fairyland to find the key to the door back home. Each part of this volume covers stories 1-5 and each is narrated by a different source, that always seems to meet their grizzly end. The fact that Gert arrived aged 6 and is now 33 on the inside, visually she is still a child. Her attitude is that of pure anger and frustration of the cheerful world she resides in.

The Queen of Fairyland has now had enough however, and so has start sending hits out to remove the destruction Gert leaves in her wake.

Do not expect by the vibrant colour palette that this is suitable for younger children as there are quite a few graphic scenes with bloody imagery.

Scottie Younge's colour palette and artwork are amazing and I am now at the point of deciding whether to buy the other volumes individually that have been released or hold off until 7th December when Volume 2 is released........decisions decisions

I downloaded Volume 1 onto my Kindle Fire to try out the quality of Comixology (affiliated with Amazon) and I have to say on my Kindle Fire, the beauty of the colours and the artwork stood out amazingly.

Review: A Portable Shelter

A Portable Shelter by Kirsty Logan My rating: 4 of 5 stars I am not one to always get on with a book based in magical realism however, I had heard such good things about this book I could not resist giving it a chance. This book is based on a gay couple Ruth and Liska who have moved to a remote coastal cottage in Scotland while Ruth carries their first child. Each of them spends time telling the baby stories containing moral and life lessons from what they have learnt. This includes many magical realism tales including selkies, werewolves and child-eating witches. They agree not to tell stories to the baby so each of them are relaying their tales in secret from each other. I really did enjoy the small tales included within the overall story of Ruth and Liska however, was somewhat disappointed when the concluding story was about Death.
